Mental health is not just important for your brain, but for your overall well being. When you are suffering from a deep depression or severe anxiety it can greatly affect every part of your body inside, and out. You need to take care of your emotional well being as well as your physical well being. When you are depressed or have another mental problem then you are tired all the time, and you might become angry or irritable with the people you love. This is not something you can control without help, but people do not understand you condition, and think you are just a mean person. This sinks you into an even further depression and the vicious cycle continues. People who are depressed can become reclusive and not want to see anyone. In even worse cases they become so disconnected with the outside world that they quit taking care of themselves and their home. They become a danger to themselves and usually someone else has to step in for them to pull themselves out of a dark place that doesn’t seem to end.
Having a problem with the stability of your mental health can be crippling to the rest of your body. You will experience a lowered immune system, severe weight changes, sleeplessness, and other physical symptoms. You appetite might be affected. There are hundreds of different symptoms of an unhealthy mind. A person may be paranoid, angry, or cry uncontrollably. They also may be abnormally happy, and make up scenarios that did not happen to share with others. Some of these problems start off barely noticeable, but if they are not acknowledged then they can worsen with time. Getting therapy as soon as possible can stop this progression into a darker state. Doctors may prescribe mood stabilizers, or anti anxiety medicine to help the person who is suffering. Once people get the help that they so desperately need then their overall sense of well being starts to get better. They realize that they have a problem and it is not their fault that they feel bad or do things that seem irrational.
Even if your body is in perfect shape, what is the point? If you do not seek treatment for your mental problems then you will never be happy. You need to be happy in order to have a good quality of life. If you have an excellent regimen where you work out and eat right that is the first step to mental health. Some people need more than self medication and need the help of therapists or doctors to help them understand the problem that they have. There are hundreds of people who live through depression, anxiety, and horrible thoughts because they are ashamed to go to the doctor. If you are not feeling right then talk to your doctor and get the help you so desperately need. A happy mind breeds a healthy body. Do not be afraid to get help and get ready to start living again!
Eating Healthy – Healthy Eating, What Does it Mean

Some people have a different idea of what constitutes a healthy diet. Some people think eating as little as possible is the way to go. Other people think that if they eat all vegetables and fruits that they are being healthy. The truth is that healthy eating does not have to be about eating all one thing, and it certainly does not mean starving yourself. There are different types of diets out there, but healthy eating really just comes down to knowing what your body needs and what is good for it.
You need protein, fat, vegetables, whole grains, fruit, and water to have a healthy balanced diet. You can get these in any way you see fit. If you want to have an egg omelet in the morning with whole grain toast, fruit, and cooked vegetables, then you go ahead. You are getting in a lot of vitamins, proteins, and nutrients your body needs for the day. You need fat, there is a common misconception that fat is bad, it is the extra calories of fat that are bad. You need to take in Omega 3, 6, and 9. Having a plant based diet is fine if you are a vegetarian, but you must have protein in your diet to avoid withering away and having brittle bones. Another thing that will help you stick to healthy eating is eating at home, and taking your lunch to work. You eat excess calories when you order food in a restaurant, because the serving sizes are huge. There is also a temptation to order something that is not good for you like cheese fries when you are staring at a menu. The less you eat out the better your diet will be, and the better you will feel. Stay away from double pounders and the biggest burrito at taco bell. You can find salads there; you can find low calorie meals anywhere. You just have to plan where you will eat ahead of time, and look up the calories before you go. You will probably be surprised what is high in calories, and what is not. You should never judge a book by its cover and that is especially true when it comes to food.
Healthy eating comes down to knowing what your body needs and stopping when you are full. Chewing slowly can help you not over do it. If you have to go out to eat have half of your food wrapped to go. If it is sitting in front of you, you are more likely to eat all of it. Do not feel bad having a salad when the rest of the table is having cheeseburgers. You made a commitment to yourself and you feel good about it. Letting other people discourage you, or worse talk you into eating unhealthy, will make you feel worse later. You know what is good for you, and you have your own goals to reach. Stick to them and you will be happy with the results.
Alcohol – Alcohol Addiction and Depression
Alcohol is something that can have a powerful hold on people. A person can become addicted from the first time that they become inebriated. They like the way alcohol makes them feel, and they feel like they are on top of the world when they are drinking. Alcohol is a fickle friend, and can turn on a person quickly and without them realizing it. A lot of time people turn to alcohol to deal with depression, but a lot of times it just makes it worse. Not only does alcoholism make depression worse it can actually be a direct cause of it. People feel depressed and they drink to feel better, which just makes them feel worse. They continue to drink more and the vicious cycle continues. Alcohol is a depressant and it has the ability to take down even the strongest person. A well adjusted person can hide an alcohol addiction from their friends and family for awhile and even convince themselves that they do not have a problem. Eventually the signs of their addiction start to break through to the surface.
Alcohol is considered a depressant because it relaxes the muscles, slows breathing down, and slows down your reaction time. Depression from alcohol is caused by a lessening of serotonin in the brain which is a chemical that is directly related to happy feelings. The more you drink the less serotonin your brain is able to produce. Alcohol also depresses your nervous system and makes your ability to make sound decisions drastically deplete. People may do or say things they do not mean while under the influence. The disease has hold of them and they have lost touch with their true selves. Things that they used to enjoy are no longer sources of joy for them. The drinking starts to become more frequent and they begin to feel that they need the drink rather than choose to drink. This is when the problem can get serious enough for family and friends to get involved. People in this state of addiction are often unreasonable and in denial.
Often people drink alcohol to escape certain feelings that they do not want to deal with. To begin with the alcohol is a soothing friend to the addict, and it becomes the only thing that makes them happy. Over time it does not make them feel better and they attempt to bring back those feelings of happiness by drinking more. They can become detached from their families and friends. This can cause depression to worsen, and the alcohol addiction to become more severe. Treating an alcohol addiction can also treat a problem with depression. This is something that has to be handled with care. It does not matter if the depression came first or the alcohol, both problems must be dealt with simultaneously. There are treatment programs that offer both psychologists and medical treatment for addicts and can help a patient gain back some happiness if they stick with the program.

There are so many different stressful things we deal with every day such as; work, family, children, weight, finances, and lots of other things we do not even realize are stressing us out. Exercise is the best way to get healthy and increase your overall happiness. You will be more alive every day, and reduce stress that otherwise dampens your spirits. Exercise is one of the best ways to help reduce stress and calm your mind. A lot of people are too busy to work out, or at least they think they are. They stay stressed out because they are so busy when if they took just a moment to plan out a daily workout they would feel so much better. Exercise is the key to improving your sense of well being, and improving your health. Exercise reduces stress in three ways; it pumps up endorphins, relaxes your mind, and improves your mood. It is a good idea to try and squeeze in thirty minutes three days a week at the very least. You can break it up in to a before work workout and an after work workout on some days. Maybe a morning yoga session for fifteen minutes, and an afternoon fifteen minute walk.
When you exercise the neurotransmitters in your brain produce more and this makes you feel great, and ready for whatever life can throw at you. The feeling you get after a really hard workout can be addictive because of this reason. When you exercise you also give yourself time to sort out things in your head. Exercise is a form of meditation because you concentrate on what you are doing instead of worrying about the day. This is something that is a huge relief especially if you were really having a bad day. Exercise can also improve your mood. It can help if you have been dealing with mild depression, panic attacks, lack of sleep, and if you suffer from poor self confidence. Exercise gives you control over your body, and this helps reduce stress all on its own.
If you can get a workout in before work then you will go in feeling better about yourself, and in a good state of mind to tackle your day. This is also true if you can squeeze in a workout at lunch. This will help break up the day and give you a boost of energy to make it through the afternoon. It is important to eat a healthy lunch with good protein and vitamins to keep your energy up. The workout you can plan for the afternoon will be the way to erase the day, and clear your mind so you can enjoy your evening. This will help you sleep more soundly and wake up in the morning ready to do it all again. It may be difficult at first, but you will find when you get into the habit of doing it, it gets a lot easier. You can figure out the type of exercise you want to do and when where it fits best in your schedule. Just get moving, and get ready to feel better.
